Kardashian Kountry

As we crossed the border, I was pretty convinced that we were going to serendipitously meet at least a distant relative of the Kardashians, if not the Kardashian family themselves, during our week long stay in Armenia. After a quick stop in Gyumri, the second biggest city in Armenia, we continued on to Armenia's couture capital: Yerevan. We stalked the stylish streets our first night in search of celebrity sensation Kim K, but we didn't even hear of a single sighting. Discouraged by out initial failure, we decided to spend the next day relaxing, seeing the sights and letting the reality TV royals come to us. We left bright and early on our own little walking tour that took us to all corners of the city, but the highlights of the day were really the Cascade (below), the Armenian Genocide Museum and the Noy Brandy Factory (below).

With two days down, the Kardashians were still evading us. So we decided to rethink our plan. “If I were a Kardashian, where would I be?” Then it hit us, the beach! So we grabbed a martshutka and headed out to beautiful Lake Sevan.

Sevan had everything: beautiful clear water, shaslik and jet skis! Still not even a glimpse of Kourtney, Kim or Khloe, so we headed to the Soviet relaxation capital of Armenia: Dilijan. Now, I am pretty sure everything in Dilijan is somehow funded by USAID. Every map, sign and construction sight sported that fabulous red, white and blue USAID logo. I am pretty sure we should have gotten to stay for free because our tax dollars already paid for our stay 50 times over!!! But I digress form our valiant paparazzi-like motives. After fruitlessly scouring the hiking trails and monasteries of Dilijan for Kris Jenner and kin, we were ready to give in. Then through the twittersphere, we hear a rumor that there had been a K-Team sighting in Alaverdi. We were off in a flash...

Unfortunately, we soon discovered the Alaverdi sighting was just of this fabulously attractive Armenian girl and not one of the Kardashian Clan.

Not wanting our time in the Alaverdi to be a complete waste, we did check out some of the beautiful monasteries in the Debed Canyon area. Then we began our trek back to Georgia. The Kardashian hunt postponed until our return to the US.

  1. I heart your blog! Especially the informative videos. I had lunch with people from the Armenian Regulatory Commission at that restaurant next to the churches at Lake Sevan in June!
